HTC Desire 820 to sell for RMB 1,999 on September 26

(Taiwan News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The world's first 64 bit 8 core smartphone, HTC's (2498) Desire 820 will kick off sales in China at a standalone price point of RMB 1,999, or approximately NT$10,000. Pre-ordering began Thursday with sales expected to commence on September 26. The Desire 820 is also expected to exceed the sales performance of the Desire 816 and could be released in Taiwan as early as year's end.

HTC is concentrating on second half sales and has initiated its new model strategy. China is a very important market. The HTC Desire 820 has captured the attention of the market in a field of high-end phones with its 5.5 inch high definition screen and Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 multicore 64 bit processor that supports high-speed 4G LTE mobile networks. Thus, China has become the Desire 820's first sales target.

The successor to the mid-tier flagship smartphone HTC Desire 816 and new member of the HTC Desire product line, the HTC Desire 820 is equipped with a 5.5 inch high definition screen, HTC BoomSound audio, 13 megapixel primary camera, f/2.2 large aperture and BSI sensor, and high definition 8 megapixel front camera. In addition, image editing software is provided to enhance the photo capturing experience.

The HTC Desire 820 will be released in China on September 26 and will be successively introduced in other regions in partnership with local telecoms and primary distributors.

The Desire 816 is still selling well. It logged over 1 million pre-orders when launched in China and sold out when released in Taiwan. The Desire 820 is focused on the mid-tier high cost-benefit market and is expected to duplicate the successful Desire816 model.

HTC has released a number of new models recently. After the launch of the Butterfly 2 and Desire 820, the company will announce a new product on October 8 in the U.S. which the market speculates is a selfie phone. In terms of new phone sales, the HTC Butterfly 2 was released in Japan in August. According to Japanese distributor survey company BCN's data, the Butterfly 2 was ranked 33rd in its first week of sales and 18th in its second week of sales.
