WITH ANDROID ONE, MEDIATEK TO CHIP AWAY AT QUALCOMM

(Indian Business Insight Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MediaTek, which is a smartphone chipmaker, will leverage its Android One partnership with Google and use India as a springboard to scale up its presence in the developed markets of the United States (US) and Europe, where its competitor Qualcomm has a dominant position. The broader plan with Google is to launch an array of smartphones, including those for high-speed mobile data, in India. MediaTek is the first chipset supplier that Google has tied up with for smartphones on the Android One platform. Micromax, Karbonn and Spice have introduced a smartphone with 4.5-inch screen, dual sim, 5 mega pixel camera and 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM, using the quad-core processor of MediaTek.
