Kontron Opens Avionics Systems Integration Lab to Accelerate Development and Deployment of Wireless IFE and Connectivity Applications

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 17 September 2014 Release date- 16092014 - Poway, California - Kontron, a leading global provider of Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), today announced the opening of the company's Avionics Systems Integration Lab (SIL) located at its North American headquarters in Poway, California.

Built with the purpose of drastically reducing customer time to system deployment, Kontron's SIL provides its customers with an advanced, full-simulation testing facility for new avionics in-flight entertainment (IFE) and wireless connectivity technologies. Offering shielded isolation, the SIL accurately simulates the aircraft cabin wireless network environment to allow characterization of IFE & Connectivity applications prior to actual system installation. A wide range of personal electronic devices are available in the SIL to facilitate performance testing and validation of customer applications.

The Kontron SIL builds upon the company's strong 30-year history of delivering standards based computing platforms for both military and commercial aerospace applications including its industry-leading Cab-n-Connect cabin wireless access point (CWAP) and ACE Flight 600 general purpose airborne server products. The lab offers the ability to test the full range of in-flight WiFi, 3G/4G cellular and satellite broadband services including Internet access, HD video streaming, content loading and retail applications. The Kontron SIL also functions as an ideal training facility for the company's technology partners and customers by offering onsite access as well as remote web cast.

'Technology changes so rapidly that it is more important than ever to help our customers minimize deployment risk and efficiently roll out of their systems on the aircraft. Kontron's SIL is a valuable test bed for new technologies as well as providing an accurate simulation of the WiFi cabin environment and applicable aircraft interfaces. We maintain a variety of personal electronic devices in sufficient numbers to help customers fully validate their Wireless IFE and connectivity applications prior to installation,' said Andy Mason, Head of Systems and Program Management at Kontron.

The Kontron SIL opened in July and is already in use as we validate our latest 4G server, 802.11ac access point and other new IFE and wireless connectivity technologies. For more information, please visit the Kontron SIL page.
