New ATIS Network Functions Virtualization Forum Brings Inter-Provider Solutions to Today's Rapidly Evolving Virtualized Infrastructure

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 -- The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions issued the following news release: ATIS today announced launch of the Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Forum, which will develop use cases that identify emerging business opportunities such as virtual network operator and service roaming in light of the rapidly evolving SDN/NFV technology that is moving the ICT industry from integrated, hardware-centric solutions to modular, hardware-agnostic frameworks.

With its focus on inter-provider technical requirements and solutions, the set of priority use cases the Forum develops will be used to realize the value derived from multi-provider service integration and identify requirements to enable improved service integration and portability. This will include a catalog of APIs to expose functionality, mechanisms to discover the available services, and the tools to combine services from multiple providers.

The NFV Forum's work builds on critical solutions aimed at realizing the benefits of SDN/NFV. These include the solutions being developed by the ETSI NFV ISG specifications, OpenStack's general purpose virtualization framework, the Linux Foundation's Open Platform for NFV (core NFV functions), TM Forum Zoom's program on management and operations, OpenDaylight's open source SDN solution, and Open Networking Foundation's OpenFlow. The Forum will complement existing NFV activities by focusing on enabling the multi-provider environment.

"ATIS' newest forum will provide the solutions that will take NFV from being an emerging technology to a true game changer in terms of enhancing the ability to integrate software across service providers in a uniform and automated way, and to scale application instances to meet the changing demand for services," said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller.

The Forum's inaugural event is a virtual meeting to be held September 25, at 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. ET. To attend, contact Yvonne Reigle, ATIS Director - Strategic Initiatives at [email protected]. Learn more at www.atis.org/nfv.
