Fire Guts CIBN House, Four Drown in Lagos Boat Mishap


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Properties valued at millions of naira were reduced to ashes, following a fire outbreak that gutted The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) office, located at No.19 Adeola Hopewell Street Victoria Island, Lagos.



The outbreak, Daily Independent gathered occurred on September 13, this year, where the information technology department of the institute was badly hit in the inferno.

Though, Ngozi Braide, Lagos police spokesperson did not mention the cause of the fire outbreak in a press release made available to our correspondent on Tuesday, sources however alleged that it may have been caused by a power upsurge.


But, Kayoade Adegoke, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bar Beach police station in Victoria Island, Lagos was said to have mobilized police officers from the station to checkmate security situations at the scene of the fire incident.

Meanwhile, four persons reportedly got drowned when a boat hit an object and sank around Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The incident occurred on September 12, this year; while a commercial boat carrying 20 passengers from Okera-Ila in Eti-Osa local government area to Bayeku in Ikorodu local government hit an object and sank near Dosumu water front.

Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said 16 out of the 20 passengers on board were rescued, while the corpses of the four others, who got drowned, have been recovered and deposited at Lagos General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
