Zambia : ZAMTEL, NEC ink deal to boost mobile coverage and capacity across ZAMBIA [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) In a bid to boost mobile coverage and capacity across Zambia, Zamtel has signed a deal with NEC Corporation for the construction of a new digital microwave radio transmission network.

NEC will reportedly improve Zamtel's current backbone and access systems and commission new links to link its macro base stations and core network wirelessly.

The deal includes the supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of NEC's icrowave transmission network equipment.

The agreement would be completed within a year at an estimated cost of $18,329,326.



Zamtel CEO, Dr Mupanga Mwanakatwe says the new digital microwave backbone and access project will involve the setting up of 2Gbps, 600Mbps, 300Mbps and 150Mbps backbone and access networks based on native Ethernet microwave radio network technologies.

He added that the investment will result in the realisation of a cutting edge national IP microwave backbone and access network, on completion.
