The award, sponsored by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and the National Business Group on Health, was presented at the annual National Conference on Health, Productivity and Human Capital in Dallas, Texas.

The award honors the achievements of individuals who demonstrate excellence and leadership in implementing programs that improve the health and productivity of the workforce.


Dr. Fabius was recognized for his contributions to the field of health and productivity on a global basis. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Fabius has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting health and wellbeing within the corporate environment. From his recognized accomplishments at Cigna, US Healthcare, Aetna, General Electric, I-Trax/CHD Meridian, Walgreens, and Thomson Reuters, his work in population health and organizational wellness has been visionary and best-in-class.

"Dr. Fabius is a true leader in being able to explain the relationship between a healthy workforce and a healthy business," said Barry Eisenberg, ACOEM Executive Director. "His pioneering work in documentation and metrics has led to a set of tools that can be used by business of all sizes to better understand and influence the future of their employees' health." Dr. Fabius recently returned to his startup company HealthNEXT, a firm dedicated to the development of organizational cultures of health, after serving as chief medical officer of Truven Health Analytics. Previously, he served as strategic medical advisor to the president of Walgreens Health and Wellness. He was also president and chief medical officer at I-Trax/CHD Meridian, and a global medical leader at General Electric. Dr. Fabius also served as a regional and corporate medical director at Cigna, US Healthcare and Aetna.

Dr. Fabius is a faculty member and Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives; a faculty member and Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine; and a founding member and vice president of Health Internet Ethics, which established the standards for health website accreditation. He also served on the standards and HEDIS metric development committees for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) during its formative years. In addition, he was a key contributor to the Change Agent Workgroup's seminal whitepaper which provides employers with a roadmap to developing a culture of health.

Dr. Fabius is the author of three medical management textbooks and several dozen articles and book chapters on a variety of topics, including utilization management, disease management, eHealth, health informatics, population health, health and productivity and building cultures of health.

Dr. Fabius has held associate faculty positions at several Philadelphia-area medical schools, including Hahnemann University (now Drexel University), Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Thomas Jefferson University. Board certified in pediatrics and medical management, Dr. Fabius received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his pediatric residency training at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
