Datalogic's Skorpio X3 mobile computer is chosen by Zero Gachis

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Paris, France (PRWEB) September 15, 2014 Datalogic S.p.A., a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation markets, is proud that Zero Gachis has chosen the Skorpio™ X3 mobile computer as an integral component of their smart labeling solution in French supermarkets. This solution is designed to efficiently identify products with short expiration dates nearing the end of their shelf life, and accurately re-label with current marked down pricing.

Zero Gachis was established to address ethical and environmental issues posed by food waste. The company has received multiple awards and recognitions, such as the SCOPS trophy, for their innovative approach to mitigate excessive waste. Their unique concept offers consumers additional savings through real-time information of available products with short expiration dates in the stores close to their location.via a website and an iOS application. Targeted products are placed in the dedicated "Zero Gachis' area" installed in these stores.

The Skorpio X3 mobile computer is placed on a vehicle mount installed on a cart enabling the operator to scan the end of life products; allowing for hands-free reading. The scanned information is transmitted via Bluetooth® to a printer, which generates a new barcode label for the product. This alleviates entering the markdown prices manually, and increases accuracy and efficiency. This system also allows for real-time marked down product updates to be transmitted to the Zero Gachis website and the consumer apps.

The ruggedness of the Skorpio X3 mobile computer makes it particularly suitable in the retail environment both on store shelves and in stock rooms. "To make sure that the application is running smoothly, we needed a powerful, ergonomic and ruggedized device, able to communicate in real time with the server as well as with the printer connected via Bluetooth. The Datalogic Skorpio X3 mobile computer perfectly met these criteria and even offered additional benefits such as 'Green Spot' technology for good read visual feedback," commented Paul Adrien Menez, CEO of Zero Gachis. He added, "In order to optimize the comfort and efficiency of the application, the terminal was placed on a vehicle mount, with the scan engine facing the ground. This position offers the operator the ability to scan the products in presentation mode. For this, Datalogic has developed a special keyboard with reversed keys so that the mobile computer can be used easily regardless of its positioning. Datalogic's flexibility and responsiveness in the development of the specific keyboard, allowed us to offer our retail partners a perfectly tailored solution for their application." This solution has been deployed over a three-month period in more than a dozen supermarkets in France, and is receiving excellent reports from the retailers. The Zero Gachis labeling solution coupled with a merchandising offer, has helped reduce the number of unsold fresh products by more than 50 percent. Increases in the average margins of approximately 10 cents per product, improved traceability of end-of-life products, and better ROI follow-up for such promotions has also been noted. In addition the Skorpio X3 mobile computer has resulted in increased operators' efficiency, comfort and productivity.

Alexandre Maquet, Datalogic ADC France Country Manager said, "Datalogic is committed to providing our customers with products that best meet their needs and further benefit their businesses. In this instance, we are especially proud that this project's positive impact is felt both in the company's seamless product integration as well as in the welfare of our community and the environment.
