Telecommunications Regulatory Authority hosts training sessions for IPv6 [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DUBAI, 13th September, 2014 (WAM) --- Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosts industry specific training sessions from 7 to 11 September on Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

Participants included were a number of organisations as well as federal and local government departments within the Information Communication Technology sector. The programme was held in cooperation with the R?seaux IP Europ?ens (RIPE) Network Coordination Centre, the regional internet registry for Europe, Middle East and Central Asia.

The programme's concept was constructed around a governmental framework combining coordination efforts between the TRA, ICT institutions and government departments. The sessions aim to improve overall strategies and performance skills of government work, keeping in line with the latest advances in software programme and technology. The training programme also focuses on developing and refining the competencies of government sector employees, allowing them to effectively operate the new version of Internet Protocol.

Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority commented, "The sessions were created as part of our ongoing strategy to improve performance levels of various government organisations in the ICT sector. The training programme is divided into two main segments, with one focusing on defining the basics of IPv6 and the other training employees on how to successfully use the latest, upgraded version." "We extend the invitation to all stakeholders in multiple government agencies, responsible for IT development; especially those specialised in connectivity and networks, to participate in these training sessions. The exercises will have a high impact, contributing to help them achieve a quantum leap in the level of technical performance exhibited in government organisations," he added.

The TRA hosted this year's first training workshop on IPv6 in February. Participating were approximately 30 employees from 15 government entities. The programme was established through constant efforts and commitment by the authority to outline the importance of transitioning to IPv6 for government organisations. Through this initiative, TRA has hosted five training sessions throughout the past couple of years, with more than 170 employees in attendance.
