Mount St. Joseph University to Open New Media Production Lab

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CINCINNATI, Sept. 11 -- The College of Mount St. Joseph issued the following news release: Not only is Mount St. Joseph University opening up the new school year with a new name, but also with a new media production lab.

The Mount is renovating a space in the Dorothy Meyer Ziv Art Building on campus into a new communications and new media studies lab that will be open to students 24/7. The lab will provide a dedicated video production and multimedia center with video and audio editing stations, as well as studio space for news production and audio recording.

"The renovation and equipment will directly serve the students in the communications and new media studies degree program who will gain experience in the lab for required cooperative education assignments and for future employment," said Robert Bodle, an associate professor of communications and new media studies at the Mount. "It will also serve students who study graphic design, interactive media and technology, with the potential to serve more than 10 percent of the Mount's student body." The media production lab will also provide faculty with access to digital media to record lectures, edit and upload videos and audio files and create digital shorts.

The lab will include Mac workstations, professional camcorders, studio lighting, portable lighting kits, microphones and a green screening system.

"The Mount's communication and new media studies program is designed to prepare professionals as decision makers and leaders for the changing world of digital communications," said Mike Sontag, dean of the Mount's School of Arts and Humanities. "These graduates will be prepared for such fields as online journalism and news production, website design and development, multimedia editing and management, game design and online advertising." The media production lab received funding from the Louise H. and David S. Ingalls Foundation, the Thomas J. Emery Memorial, the Louise Taft Semple Foundation and the Josephine Schell Russell Charitable Trust, PNC Bank, Trustee.

Mount St. Joseph University is an undergraduate and graduate Catholic university that provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curriculum emphasizing values, service and social responsibility.
