Advantech Unveils Highest-Density Networked Media Server

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS -- (Marketwired) -- 09/10/14 -- IBC 2014, Advantech (TWSE: 2395), a leading innovator in advanced media processing technologies for broadcasting, today announced the introduction of the new HVS-9600 Networked Media Server. The growing complexity of multi-channel multi-screen environments demands greater flexibility of IP-based workflows through more-efficient cloud-based operation models. The HVS-9600 Networked Media Server embraces this new paradigm by delivering highest density on a highly-efficient ARM/DSP-based OCP (Open Compute Project) microserver platform. With 10G/40G Ethernet interfaces, it enables multiple uncompressed UHDTV channel processing on a single high-throughput system.

The HVS-9600 introduces a new generation of IP-based media computing platforms targeted to help broadcasters move to next-generation cloud-based video production. It integrates 160 high-performance Texas Instruments (TI) C6000™ DSP cores and 80 ARM® Cortex®-A15 cores in 20 CPU edge boards based on the KeyStone™ II architecture providing highest density on a 2 OpenU OCP microserver platform. Video solutions developers will easily accelerate IP-based workflows over its four 40 GbE and sixteen 10 GbE interfaces. Highest payload applications running on the HVS-9600 will be able to process multiple compressed and uncompressed UHDTV channels at the lowest power budget.

The fully-integrated HVS-9600 implements multiple codec optimizations, including H.265/HEVC, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4 and JPEG2000. Its modular design, with onboard switching and local storage, supports flexible hardware configurations including DSP, FPGA, ARM and x86 based accelerators. This versatility combined with the massive throughput and performance make it ideal for consolidating on-the-cloud encoding, decoding, transcoding, transrating and streaming applications.

"Given the growing complexity of the broadcasting industry, broadcasters are urging to benefit from the scalability and flexibility provided by cloud-based solutions," said David Lin, senior director, DSP solutions, Advantech. "The HVS-9600 unlocks the huge potential of streamlined IP-based media workflows enabling flexible deployments to manage today's dynamic TV services more easily".

"With the introduction of HVS-9600, Advantech has once again proven its capabilities in bringing high performance and cost effective systems to market," said Atul Verma, business manager, video infrastructure, Texas Instruments. "HVS-9600 provides customers a highly integrated and scalable platform suitable for a variety of specialized workloads including video and analytics. We are proud of our relationship with Advantech and thrilled to see TI's KeyStone II devices serving as the main processing engine in this state of the art media processing server." Advantech also announced the availability of the system through its Intelligent Video Solutions Master Division in order to provide a unified approach to video processing solutions. The division offers a comprehensive spectrum of services to create the maximum value for customers.

"Advantech takes a complete platform approach with the HVS-9600 Networked Media Server to help broadcasting solutions providers offload the complex system integration and validation services," said Kevin Chien, product manager for the HVS-9600, Advantech. "We operate as an integrated extension of our customer's teams, strengthening their capabilities from R&D to global logistics, to successfully deliver fully integrated systems at any scale." The HVS-9600 Networked Media Server will be introduced at IBC in Amsterdam, Netherlands on September 12-16, 2014 at Advantech Booth # 9.C22 in Hall 9.
