ADEA Announces Plans to Relocate to the New Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Building

WASHINGTON --(Business Wire)--

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA), The Voice of Dental Education, announced today its plans to relocate to the recently completed Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) building. The AAMC officially opened the doors to its new headquarters at 655 K Street, N.W., in Washington, D.C., in May 2014. Effective January 1, 2015, ADEA headquarters will be located on the 8th floor of the AAMC office building, occupying approximately 20,000 of the 290,000 square feet of building space.

"As leaders within the higher education and health professions communities, ADEA and the AAMC have long been strategically aligned regarding key issues on a national level," says Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H., ADEA President and CEO. "Sharing a space opens a door to new opportunities, while enhancing our existing collaborations on interprofessional education initiatives, our mutual diversity programs, and joint faculty and student resources."

Following a twelve month search for a new office space, the AAMC building was selected as the optmal location to accommodate ADEA's growth and strategic goals-fostering the Association's "individual efforts to benefit the collective whole." The innovative space reflects ADEA's professional, collaborative, and forward-thinking membership.

"The AAMC designed its new headquarters to bring our more than 600 employees together in one space to foster collaboration, give us room to grow, and better serve the nation's medical schools and teaching hospitals," says AAMC President and CEO Darrell G. Kirch, M.D. "ADEA had the same goals in their search for the right office space. We are very pleased to share our new home with ADEA, an organization whose mission aligns with the AAMC and which is a key strategic partner on several of our health education initiatives."

According to the AAMC, the building was designed to achieve a LEED Gold certification in the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. For example an estimated 75 percent of the building's roof area is covered with extensive green roofing.

The move will place ADEA in close proximity to Capitol Hill and the resurging area around the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. In addition, ADEA and its members in the dental education community will have access to the AAMC's two-story learning center and conferencing facility. Designed to foster collaboration through innovative use of space, including a 200-person multipurpose room and eight additional conference rooms, the building design emphasizes natural light and features a rooftop terrace and café for staff and member functions. It represents one of the most significant redevelopment investments in the long-underserved Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood.
