Hospital Council Names David Serrano Sewell Vice President of San Francisco District
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--
The Hospital Council of Northern and Central California has named a
respected deputy city attorney and long-time health-care advocate as the
new regional vice president for the San Francisco district.
David Serrano Sewell, a member of the Medical Board of California and
former appointee to the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine's
Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, takes over his new role
effective Sept. 15.
"David's legal experience and his service on two statewide health
related boards make him ideally suited to represent the hospitals of San
Francisco," said Art Sponseller, President and CEO of the Hospital
Council of Northern and Central California. "He has forged strong
relationships in City Hall and has a well-earned reputation as a smart,
compassionate leader."
Serrano Sewell, 44, a 25-year San Francisco resident, most recently
served as deputy city attorney for the Sa Francisco Airport, where he
advised the executive director and senior staff on land-use, licensing
and regulatory issues. He has served on the city's Ethics and Elections
Commissions and is a former aide to Mayor Willie Brown.
"David Serrano Sewell has been an outstanding deputy city attorney and a
well-informed, passionate leader on healthcare issues for many years,"
said San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera. "His new role on the
Hospital Council represents a natural next step for a gifted public
servant, and I have every confidence that San Francisco hospitals will
be extremely well served by his leadership. I wish David the very best
in his new position."
Serrano Sewell earned a bachelor's degree in Urban Studies from San
Francisco State University and a law degree from Golden Gate University
School of Law. He currently serves on the board of the San Francisco
State University Foundation and is a former president of the San
Francisco Latino Democratic Club.
The Hospital Council of Northern and Central California is a nonprofit
hospital and health system trade association established in 1961,
representing 185 hospitals in 50 of California's 58 counties. The San
Francisco section of the Hospital Council is comprised of 10 hospitals
representing 5,600 licensed beds in San Francisco County.
"We are delighted that David is joining the Hospital Council in San
Francisco and we look forward to working with him to improve the health
of the community and continuing our tradition of service to the city and
the Bay Area," said Anna Cheung, President of St. Mary's Medical Center
and Chair of the San Francisco Section.
Serrano Sewell lives in the Mission District with his wife Sarah and 8-
year-old daughter Clara.
