Chinese regulator imposes 20-day deadline on Microsoft to 'explain' OS [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) yesterday informed Microsoft Corp that it has 20 days to explain in detail how its Windows operating system works with its Office productivity suite, online media reported.

The competition watchdog also reiterated suspicions that Microsoft had displayed a lack of transparency regarding the interoperability of Office with the OS.

Microsoft is one of a number of foreign companies, across several industry sectors, being investigated under China's six-year-old anti-trust legislation. The series of probes comes in the wake of a high-profile, long-standing dispute between Beijing and Washington over cyber security.

Microsoft told the Wall Street Journal it "strictly adhered to" Chinese law and that it was co-operating with the SAIC's investigation.
