CLOUD CLOUT IS [Mail Today (India)]

(Mail Today (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Give wings to your dreams with a specialisation in cloud computing CLOUT Y OU don't have to look farther than Satya Nadella, the Microsoft chief, to know the power of cloud computing, a term used for an array of services that run from the Web as opposed to desktop applications (e- mail and social networking sites are two examples).

The elevation of Nadella, who presided over its cloud and enterprise division, as the new boss, earlier this year, was proof enough, which way the wind is blowing in the IT sector.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), a global provider of market intelligence, seven million new cloud- related jobs will be created worldwide 2015, as more and more com- centre of Commerce.

" Cloud fastest and career panies shift their business to cloud. The domestic market for in India alone is estimated to worth over $ 22 billion by next year, as per the India Brand Equity Foundation, a knowledge centre under the Ministry Commerce.

Cloud computing is one of the fastest growing global industries and is an area of significant career opportunity," says Horacio Gonzalez- Velez, head of the Cloud Competency Centre (CCC), National College of Ireland (NCI) in Dublin, which offers an MSc in cloud computing.

Lack of " appropriately skilled candidates" is blamed by IDC as the main reason preventing employers from filling the existing vacancies in cloud computing.

" When moving to the cloud, a company needs not only the right infrastructure and processes but also the right people," says Gonzalez- Velez. " This means candidates who are focused on business development such as enterprise architects, cloud capacity planners, cloud service managers and business solution consultants, will have greater opportunities," he says.

With technology major Intel predicting three times more connected devices than people on earth by 2017, the opportunity is huge for candidates with the right kind of skill sets, as most of these devices will depend on cloud.

" Job aspirants must have the right combination of IT skills, problemsolving mind and can- do attitude in order to be attractive to employers," says Gonzalez- Velez. " They should also have the ability to understand the foundations of computer science to enable them to learn new technologies and concepts," he says.

The MSc programme in Cloud Computing at NCI admits applicants on the basis of their ability to learn and solve problems based on computational abstractions.

Since its inception in 2012, NCI has trained around 100 candidates at the post- graduate level including Ajitpal Singh, a graduate of Indian origin who won the best paper award at an international conference organised by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in Birmingham, UK, in July.
