Sri Lanka : SRI LANKA: SLT announced upgrading of LEARN with MPLS IP-VPN technology [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the largest telecom services provider in the country, has made an announcement on the advancement of the Lanka Education And Research Network (LEARN) in recent times.

The upgrading project has facilitated improved internet access bandwidth of as much as 1.65 Gbps, in addition to the interconnecting wide area network (WAN) with the universities and research institutes across the island nation. The LEARN interconnects all the state universities backed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), as well as several public universities operating under other ministries, the UGC, the Ministry of Higher Education, and numerous national research institutions including the National Science Foundation (NSF). The LEARN is also directly connected to SchoolNet, the network linking secondary schools in the country and Lanka Government Network (LGN), the network involving government-run institutions in Sri Lanka.

With the upgrading of network infrastructure of LEARN, different kinds of e-Learning activities (online as well as distance education), video conferencing, video streaming and routing of inter-university voice and broadband internet access for academics and learners in the relevant universities will be possible.

The LEARN network has been upgraded with the MPLS IP-VPN technology, under which fiber-optic infrastructure has been used to connect all universities with the National Backbone Network of the country. The renewed LEARN network s core servers are co-positioned in the SLT Internet Data Center (iDC).
