Businessman shot at after run-in with trio [Delhi] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old property dealer was seriously injured in a case of road rage in west Patel Nagar on Thursday night. His car brushed past a man, triggering a fight in which the victim was shot in the stomach, police said. Vipin Rajput (40) had a run-in with three men, who had apparently asked him to park his car elsewhere as it was getting in their way. This had led to bad blood which culminated in the violence, added cops. The victim has a shop in Block 24 and stays in Block 37 with his wife and two daughters. His wife is a manager at a private bank. A case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of IPC has been registered against the men. "We've got some clues about their identity and are questioning the locals," said Alok Kumar, additional CP, central district. According to Rajput's brother-in-law Jitender, the victim was returning home from his shop around 9.30pm when a client called him up for a meeting nearby. "While he was closing the shop, the three men, who were walking down the footpath, stopped and asked him to move his Swift," he said. Vipin's refusal led to an argument. "He left in a hurry while the men made for a roadside stall to have dinner," claimed Jitender. After going some distance, he reportedly saw his client coming towards his shop and stopped his car near the food stall where the three were having dinner. Jitender further claimed that after meeting the client, Vipin had started his car but it lurched forward, hitting one of the men on his hand. The man abused him while Vipin reportedly got off to apologize. One of them allegedly thrashed him. When Vipin retaliated, another whipped out a pistol and took aim, added Jitender. The men left Vipin bleeding. Hearing the gunshots, Vipin's client rushed back and raised the alarm. He, along with a few shopkeepers, took Vipin to the B L Kapoor Hospital, where he was put on life support. The family members and police were informed. A team from the Patel Nagar police station arrived, followed by crime and forensic teams, which recovered a 0.32 cartridge from the spot. On Friday morning, CCTV footage was retrieved from a nearby shop. It showed the three men wearing shorts escaping after the incident. One of them had a pistol coming out of his pocket. Doctors told the family that Vipin had lost a lot of blood and his internal organs were damaged. They operated upon him on Friday to remove the bullet lodged in the spine. Vipin's father worked as a senior manager with a telecom company is staying abroad with his daughter, police said.
