Coyle Named DoDEA Pacific Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OKINAWA, Japan, Aug. 26 -- The U.S. Department of Defense's Education Activity issued the following news release: DoDEA Pacific Director Dr. Linda Curtis announced today the selection of Dr. Gael Coyle as DoDEA Pacific Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. "Dr. Coyle is an outstanding instructional leader with extensive experience at the elementary and secondary levels," said Curtis, "We look forward to her leadership and expertise as we continue our work towards increasing student achievement across the Pacific." As the second-in-command for DoDEA Pacific, Coyle will be responsible for leading the area office education division; collaborating with principals, superintendents, and Instructional Systems Specialists at all levels; and guiding improvement efforts for educational programs and services across the Pacific. Coyle is a longtime DoDEA employee with experience in a wide range of positions. She has been a classroom teacher, case study committee chair, special education administrator, elementary and high school administrator, and most recently assistant superintendent for the South Carolina/Fort Stewart/Department of Defense Dependents Schools Cuba School District in the U.S. As the assistant superintendent, she provided educational leadership for approximately 550 employees serving more than 3,200 pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students at DoD schools on four separate military installations. While serving as the assistant superintendent, she was also instrumental in the implementation of several initiatives such as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), school-wide intervention programs, extended learning opportunities, district-wide weekly collaborations, and monthly pre-decisional involvement meetings. As a result, the district showed steady academic gains and improved stakeholder relationships. Coyle was a middle school teacher in Eugene, Ore. before joining DoDEA as a special education teacher in Edzell, Scotland. Throughout her 28-year career in DoDEA, she has held numerous teaching and administrative positions for DoD schools and support offices located in Europe and the U.S. Coyle received a master's degree from the University of Oregon in special education and completed a doctorate in administration and supervision of education at Oklahoma State University. Coyle has established herself as an instructional leader by successfully leading schools to improve academic outcomes for military-connected children. She firmly believes that all children can learn and that educators and school support staff must be provided the necessary support and resources to enhance teaching and learning. She has also been a strong advocate for children with special needs throughout her educational career. As DoDEA Pacific Deputy Director for CIA, Coyle is committed to preparing DoDEA students to be college and career-ready and competitive in a global economy.
