Harb, mobile firms tackle quality [Daily Star, The (Lebanon)]

(Daily Star, The (Lebanon) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BEIRUT: Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb discussed Tuesday with the management of touch and Alfa, Lebanon's two mobile operators, the recent deterioration in the quality of phone calls.

Harb met at the ministry's office with delegations of both operators including general managers and telecoms engineers who submitted proposals to reduce call interruptions and highlighted problems causing the deterioration in the quality of calls.

Among the reasons for the technical problems is the presence of repeaters and jammers in some buildings which have affected the performance of the network in general, a number of telecoms experts earlier told The Daily Star.

Harb will hold a news conference Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. to elaborate on the issue and propose solutions after he was criticized for failing to take quick action to end this chronic problem.

Harb had earlier warned touch and Alfa, both private firms, that he would not renew their contracts, which will expire at the end of the month, if the quality of services failed to improve.
