Why Huawei only makes Android smartphones [Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia)]

(Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Although Windows Phone device sales have been stagnant of late,  Microsoft is positive about its fortunes as it has made the platform free for OEMs to use and have signed more manufacturers on board, one of which being HTC. Still, Redmond faces challenges in trying to woo big-name manufacturers to spend their resources on Windows Phone smartphones, especially if they are already committed to the Android platform. One such company is Huawei, makers of the well-received Ascend P7, running on the Android platform.

Richard Yu, head honcho of Huawei's consumer business group, informs The Wall Street Journal that while his company would be interested in making a Windows Phone device, the current trend suggests that ‘consumers don't want to buy Windows Phones’.

"We have tried using the Windows Phone OS," Yu elaborates. "But it has been difficult to persuade consumers to buy a Windows phone. It wasn't profitable for us. We were losing money for two years on those phones. So for now we've decided to put any releases of new Windows phones on hold. We have worries about Android being the only option, but we have no choice." Yu also took the opportunity to jab at Samsung by saying that the Tizen platform "has no chance to be successful," which is actually grimmer than his assessment of Windows Phone.
