United States : SGS Selects Spirent to Expand Testing Capabilities for VoLTE E911 [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Spirent Communications announced today that leading test lab SGS has selected its 8100 Location Technology Solution to expand its AGPS Over-The-Air (OTA) testing capabilities. This is the second Spirent AGPS OTA test solution selected by SGS to support the increased need and growing demand for AGPS OTA testing of mobile devices. SGS and Spirent understand that with large-scale VoLTE rollouts under way and the critical importance of E911, the demand for AGPS OTA testing is rapidly increasing and they have collaborated to deliver the most comprehensive and accessible OTA test capabilities to meet the requirements of wireless carriers.

We consider OTA test methodology to be essential in device performance evaluation, and have placed a priority on providing support to wireless carriers as they evolve their requirements to include AGPS OTA tests, said Michael Spitzer, Global Wireless Manager at SGS. We continue to partner with Spirent and view their industry-leading expertise in location technologies to be the key differentiator and foundation of their robust AGPS OTA test solution.

Performed in a controlled radiated environment (i.e. an anechoic chamber), OTA testing provides a complete performance picture, taking into account all interaction factors between the mobile device and the rest of the wireless environment. Leading wireless operators recognize the importance of OTA testing methodology and its critical role in enabling accurate location-based services (LBS) and fulfilling emergency service requirements (VoLTE E911).

When you consider the many features being built into next-gen mobile devices and the complexities of deploying new radio access technologies such as LTE, you can quickly appreciate the many challenges that confront wireless carriers, said Guy Merritt, Vice President Wireless Products at Spirent Communications. Working with a leading lab such as SGS is a strategic move on our part that emphasizes Spirent s mission to provide unparalleled support to wireless carriers, and to assist them in understanding and adopting critical test methodologies such as AGPS OTA.
