Mauritius : Free WIFI Zones at Port Louis Victoria Bus Terminal launched [TendersInfo (India)](TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A Free WIFI (Wireless Internet Fidelity) Zone was launched yesterday at Victoria Bus Terminal in Port Louis by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Mr Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum. The launching of the Free WIFI Zone on this site is the first of over 170 Free WIFI Zones that will be launched across the country in the days to come under the Intelligent Mauritius Partnership Programme (IMPP). The next site identified is L Escalier. In his address, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Mr Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, expressed satisfaction that the installation of Free WIFI Zones across the country is becoming a reality and is paving the way to enhanced access to education and information. He lauded the collaboration that exists between the public and private sectors in implementing this project. The Minister also encouraged the population to come forward and submit their grievances as regards poor internet connectivity as this will help in enhancing service delivery by operators. The IMPP initiative: The Intelligent Mauritius Partnership Programme (IMPP), which is an initiative of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, aims at converging efforts, in collaboration with private sector operators, to facilitate the uptake of ICT adoption by a larger number of citizens. The IMPP, while helping to bridge the digital divide through an integrated approach, will also assist towards shaping the I-Mauritius concept. As such, ICT technology through a wider adoption in daily life will become a fundamental driver for spurring innovation and creating economic opportunities for Mauritian citizens. In this context several Free WIFI Zones have been carpeted around the island and are operational on municipal and district councils sites. The University of Mauritius and the University of Technology, Mauritius have also been provided with free WIFI access.
