Four mobile licence hopefuls named [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) has revealed the names of four applicants for the country's third mobile network operating licence, as it continues to review the applications, the Trinidad Express reports. Cable & Wireless Communications (the 49% shareholder of existing mobile/fixed operator Trinidad & Tobago), Columbus Communications (parent of existing cableco Flow Trinidad & Tobago), Star Mobile Caribbean and Telesur are the four hopefuls who submitted their documents by the 30 April deadline. Telesur (including wireless unit TeleG) is a full-service telco in Suriname, backed by the Surinamese government, while Star Mobile is a company registered in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Meanwhile, the TATT announced on 18 August 2014 that it has received an application from the existing cellular market leader Digicel Trinidad & Tobago for a concession to provide pay-TV services ('Subscription Broadcasting Service via a Telecommunications Network'), whilst comments or objections to the four mobile licence applications may be submitted by 26 August.
