Comporium among investors in Zubie's auto technology [The Herald (Rock Hill, S.C.) :: ]


(Herald (Rock Hill, SC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 16--Zubie, a startup company in the emerging connected car space, has raised $8 million for its driver management system which includes trip and vehicle analytics.

Along with the investments from NGP and Magna International, Zubie also announced that NGP Partner Paul Asel has joined its board of directors. Existing Zubie investors Castrol innoVentures, Comporium and OpenAir Equity Partners also participated in the funding round.



"The Connected Car Fund anticipates the potential for disruptive innovation in the automotive sector as the most significant unconnected mobile asset comes online," said Asel.

Zubie's AlwaysSmart technology extracts and analyzes data about driving behavior and engine health, providing safety and cost recommendations. Zubie can be purchased online through Zubie.com, Amazon, Best Buy and Newegg.


Business News --Jack Holladay, senior vice president of wireless and Internet group for Comporium, will become executive vice president -- planning and development, effective Nov. 1. He will report directly to Bryant Barnes, president and CEO.

Holladay began his career with Comporium in 1984 and has served in various management positions. He is currently accountable for network services, new venture startup, Internet planning and development, and wireless planning and development.

Holladay will retain his current responsibilities and will assume additional responsibilities now under Harry Miller, who is retiring after 42 years of service. Holladay will assume oversight for installation and repair, information technology, facilities and construction, and engineering and planning.

Holladay has a bachelor's degree from Presbyterian College and a master's degree from Winthrop.

--Comporium is streaming content via HBO online offerings and is offering Showtime Anytime and Starz/Encore Play in its "Watch TV Everywhere" streaming content lineup.

Comporium subscribers to Showtime and to Starz/Encore premium channels can obtain free access to these networks' streaming video, including original programming and feature film content, with apps on their computers, tablets, mobile devices and TV sets. HBO Go and Max Go are available to digital video customers who subscribe to HBO and/or Cinemax.

Calendar --WEDNESDAY -- The Technology Incubator @ Knowledge Park will hold a lunch and learn session at noon. The speaker is Nicole Sabourin from RevenFlo, discussing the top 10 tips for startups and early-stage companies.
