Connect Ads partners with Shazam [Gulf News (United Arab Emirates)]

(Gulf News (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dubai Digital advertising solutions provider Connect Ads, a subsidiary of Cairo-based OTVentures, has entered a partnership with mobile application Shazam, it said on Thursday.

The Shazam app runs on any smartphone or tablet and uses a sound recognition technology that allows it automatically identify music, media, and advertisements, the company said in a statement. By using Shazam to recognise a sound clip, users can access additional information on their smart device, including details about a product being advertised on TV.

Fadi Antaki, CEO of OTVentures, a technology solutions provider, said in a statement that he expects Shazam to make a big push in connecting TV networks and advertisers with consumers on their "second screens", such as their smartphones or tablets, According to Connect Ads, consumers in both Saudi Arabia and UAE markets own up to four digital devices, with 91 per cent and 86 per cent of residents in the Kingdom and the UAE, respectively, watching TV every day. Data revealed that 64 per cent of TV viewers in Saudi and 50 per cent in the UAE have the "second screen syndrome", which entails engaging in other digital activities while watching TV, stated the media solutions company. The partnership aims to take advantage of consumers' multi-screening or ‘screen-stacking' habits, thus allowing brands to expand their advertising outreach.

Shazam currently boasts over 475 million users globally. In the Middle East, brands can advertise on the app through Connect Ads, Shazam for TV campaigns (SFTV) and in-app opportunities such as banners and listening screens.
