Judicial Branch Leaders Tour Courts and Programming in Northeast Nebraska(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LINCOLN, Neb., Aug. 13 -- The Nebraska Supreme Court issued the following news release: Chief Justice Mike Heavican, newly appointed State Court Administrator Corey Steel, and key staff members of the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation will travel to several northeastern Nebraska communities from August 19 through August 22, 2014. The mission of the trip is to meet with Judicial Branch staff, tour courts, view recently developed technology, attend a Drug Court graduation and experience Probation Reporting Center programming. Additionally, several meetings have been scheduled with area attorneys to explain the new Supreme Court Attorney Services Division. State Senators, County Board Members, and local dignitaries have been invited to attend. About Newly Redesigned Court Public Access Screens The new computer screens are designed to provide free, easy access for the public to view court records from across the state. Anyone visiting the courthouse during regular work hours will be able to search court calendars, make fine or fee payments (credit card or electronic check), and access self-help information on court procedures and forms. About Attorney Services Division Programming The Judicial Branch's Attorney Services Division will provide legal education sessions for area attorneys. Topics include attorney licensing, trial court services for certified language interpreters, and technology in the areas of efiling and electronic notice. The Chief Justice and State Court Administrator will attend education sessions to provide an update on Judicial Branch programs and services. About Drug Court Graduations Nebraska Drug Courts host graduations to mark an important rite of passage after court clients successfully complete their program. When a person graduates from Drug Court, it signifies the transformation from a life of addiction to a commitment to a more mature, responsible life. These graduations are not an end, but rather a new beginning; the start of a new chapter in a person's life. Graduations help people remember the things accomplished while looking forward to the future. During graduation ceremonies, participants in Nebraska are often given sobriety medallions or Certificates of Accomplishment to mark their achievement. About State Probation Reporting Centers Reporting Centers provides a continuum of services for clients in one building and under one roof. Services are evidence-based and tailored to the needs of the local population. Reporting centers assist in engaging offenders in rehabilitative services while simultaneously providing enhanced supervision through probation. Reporting Centers have become integral to the success of the Specialized Substance Abuse Supervision program (SSAS) and to the reduction in recidivism. Centers provide the following: * Core program components include: Pre-treatment, Employment and Educational/Life skills classes and cognitive groups to assist clients in behavior change. * Centers also offer services that are unique to the Judicial Districts where they are located. There are collectively over 143 different services within the eight Reporting Centers. These services include such things as: parenting, anger management, financial management, relapse prevention, victim impact classes, domestic violence classes, women's groups, and Alcoholic Anonymous and Al-Anon meetings. * Other services such as drug testing and ancillary assistance (transportation, leisure activities, clothing closets, computer labs) are also available.
