Top civil servant new boss at Sage ; APPOINTMENTS [Newcastle Journal (England)]


(Newcastle Journal (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ONE of the country's top civil servants is to take the helm of software giant Sage.

With Guy Berruyer retiring from the FTSE 100 company on November 5, his shoes will be Slled by Stephen Kelly, currently the country's most senior civil servant responsible for e"ciency and reform.

News of his appointment led to a rise in shares yesterday, while the company's chairman made a show of conSdence by buying 15,000 shares in the Srm.

On appointment, Mr Kelly will receive a basic annual salary of Pounds 790,000 and will participate in the Annual Bonus and Performance Share Plan to the same extent as his predecessor. In addition, Mr Kelly will receive a one-o~ PSP award of Pounds 987,500 with a six-year vesting period against demanding share return performance conditions.



Mr Berruyer, who will also eventually step down from his position as company director, will continue to receive his normal salary and bene-Sts as he provides support to the new chief executive until the end of March 2015. However, from November 5, he will not be eligible for a bonus.

" Headquartered in Newcastle, Sage is the world's third-largest supplier of enterprise resource planning software, and the largest supplier to small businesses, with more than 6m customers worldwide. In 2013, the group's underlying revenue jumped 4% to around Pounds 1.26bn, while prSts rose 1% to Pounds 360.5m.

Mr Kelly will join the group after a spell as chief operating o"cer for the Government, responsible to the Minister for the Cabinet O"ce. As well as e"ciency and reform, his remit includes promoting the Government's SME agenda.

Mr Kelly, who was educated at the University of Bath, has also served as chief executive of two growth-orientated public software companies - the NASDAQ-listed Chordiant Software, Inc. between 2001 to 2005, and the London Stock Exchange-listed Micro Focus International plc between 2006 and 2010.

He has likewise been a founder investor and director in a number of successful SMEs.
