Lam Thye retires as SP Setia Foundation chairman [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye retired from his post as chairman of SP Setia Foundation on Friday.

In a statement to the media, he thanked the property developer, SP Setia Bhd, for having given him the privilege and opportunity to serve the foundation for 14 years, enabling the company to discharge its corporate social responsibility.

"My journey with the foundation has been wonderful and rewarding," said Lee, who is also Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation vice-chairman. It was a journey of touching hearts, bringing hope and cheer to the poor, unfortunate and deserving Malaysians, regardless of race, who need assistance, particularly in the area of education." Every year, the foundation adopts 2,600 poor students from all races from the national as well as Chinese and Tamil primary schools, and provides them with basic education needs, such as uniforms, school bags, stationery, computer and tuition fees as well as their canteen meals.

The foundation also organises Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah camps to prepare students for their assessment examinations.

Medical attention is also extended to deserving Malaysians by providing dialysis machines to non-governmental organisation-run dialysis centres to provide dialysis treatment to renal patients.

"Taking the role as leader for the past 12 years, I leave with a sense of pride and accomplishment knowing well that the foundation has touched many hearts and souls, giving them hope for a bright future." The foundation has also provided substantial assistance to numerous NGOs in giving help to the deserving, such as autistic children, the disabled, the hearing impaired and others.
