India,United States,Zambia : FACEBOOK and AIRTEL launch an initiative to bring internet to the users in ZAMBIA [TendersInfo (India)](TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Facebook-backed Internet.org initiative aims to bring internet connectivity to the poor and underserved, announced a partnership with emerging markets carrier Airtel that will see the Internet.org app provide free services to users in Zambia. Airtel subscribers with a capable device can use the app for useful health, employment and local information services without data charges. By providing free basic services through the app, Facebook and Airtel hope to bring people online and help them discover valuable services. The news is a development for Internet.org, which was launched last year, as it marks the participation of the first major league operator in the project. Facebook assembled Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung to drive the project, aiming to make internet access available to two-thirds of the world who are not yet connected, and to bring the opportunities to everyone.
