India : BROADCOM launches BCM7252 system-on-chip [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Broadcom has declared the BCM7252 system-on-chip (SoC) that would have the high efficiency video codec (HEVC) H.265 code to power Tata Sky s first generation Ultra HD set-top box (STB).

Tata Sky has been collaborated with Technicolor to design and deploy India s first 4K STBs to consumers by 2015.

With HD broadcasts, you depend on MPEG-4 to compress content, but with Ultra HD broadcast, you require a higher-efficiency video codes to allow successful transmission. Broadcom BCM7252 SoC develops coding efficiency and reduces bandwidth requirements by 50 per cent.

Broadcom BCM7252 SoC`s some of the key features covers dual-core Brahma15 ARM v7 processors, 2180p60 or dual 1080p60 decode and transcode capabilities. It also backs up connectivity for USB 3.0, PCIe, Gigabit ethernet and so on. Platform securoty, content protection and DRM robustness is another advantage.
