Telecom Italia CEO says TIM Brasil will participate in 4G 700MHz auction [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Brazilian telecoms operator TIM Participacoes (TIM Brasil) will take part in the upcoming auction of 4G mobile spectrum in the 700MHz band, due to kick off in September, says Marco Patuano, the CEO of its Italian controller Telecom Italia. BNAmericas writes that Patuano met with Brazil's president Dilma Rousseff this week in Brasília. His confirmation of TIM's plans comes in the wake of earlier indications from Telecom Italia and the Brazilian carrier that it would take part in the tender. Recently, TIM Brasil has been selling off non-core assets to beef up its war chest as it looks to bid for one of the four national spectrum blocks on offer – the prices of which are still to be announced. TIM Brasil already offers 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the 2500MHz band, having secured national bandwidth in the 2012 tender. At that date, it bid BRL340 million (USD154 million) for its allocation of spectrum – a premium of 7.9% on the reserve price set by Anatel.
