(Mail Today (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mukesh Meshram, managing director of UPSRTC, talks about the Intelligent Transport Management System ( ITMS) project of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation ( UPSRTC) 1 ON ITMS: The project contemplates the setting up of a data centre with 23 servers and associated infrastructure, a disaster recovery centre with 18 servers, field level infrastructure — computers, printers, ETMs and VTS for each bus, SIM cards, LCDs at bus stations and automatic announcement systems.



2 ON THE CONCEPT: The ITMS is passengercentric and has projected a positive impact on the performance and profitability of UPSRTC by improving processes.

The project aims to revolutionise operations and the impact will become visible with time.


It needs to be accepted by various stakeholders — passengers and the management staff.

3 ON COMPONENTS OF ITMS: Online reservation through websites, counter reservation and current tickets, on- board sales through ETMs, pass sales, revenue reconciliation and accounting, passenger information system at bus stations , automatic announcement systems, and IVRS & SMS enquiry are the components.

4 ON THE GOALS OF ITMS: From a public perspective, the goals are ticketing convenience and green initiative — passengers can use tickets in electronic format along with photo ID. The SOS button is GPS- installed in the bus to send an SOS, travel information, operations control and fuel consumption.

5 ON COST AND FUNDING: The capital cost of the project is ` 38.25 crore, of which 50 per cent is being funded as a grant under Additional Central Assistance from the government.

The project has no investment or operations implications on UPSRTC's profitability.
