Daniel Richards Answers your questions about computers and the internet [Daily Post (Liverpool, England)]

(Daily Post (Liverpool, England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Q I have been using my laptop for a few years now. I do emails and shop online, and seem to be doing ok. Now my son has purchased me a tablet computer- 'android'? I am at a loss as to how to use it - he has set up my email through an app but I am lost - any ideas? A What you need to understand is that the apps in a tablet are a shortened version of what you are used to with your laptop, a sort of email lite if you will. Actual layout of your email page will be different with the app, as it has been configured for viewing through the tablet - give it time, and you will come to be familiar with it - also note, there is nothing stopping you navigating to your usual email access through the tablet's search engine. The idea of the app is to give you quicker access, and quicker use of the basic controls.

Q I have been interested in buying a tablet for a while, but my budget is tight. I have noticed a couple of machines for Pounds 60. Are these too good to be true? A It is not for me to say if these are good deals or not, but there are a few things that you need to be looking for - memory size. You need to have at least 8GB as well as the ability to increase with a memory card. The prices you are looking at suggest you are looking at android tablets, so you will be looking at confectionery themed names such as jelly bean, ice cream etc as version names....have I confused you yet? Well, it is a confusing world for cheap tablets. You may find a decent tablet for the prices you suggest, the safest way to find out is to utilise the best advice there is - the advise of the internet. Google the tablets you are interested in, seek out reviews, see what people think of them - find at least three reviews, then you can make an informed decision.

Q What should I do if I cannot get my email system to work? I can still get in and receive emails, but nothing goes out - how can both my PC and tablet be unable to work it? A The first step is to Google the problem, naming the email provider, as it sounds to me to be a problem with your email providerand if so, there will be others with the same problem. A number of providers have had problems recently. Always a good idea with email to have at least one spare email address with another provider, for just such an occasion.
