Plugable Technologies' Kickstarter Campaign Reaches Target and Closes Soon

BELLEVUE, Wash. --(Business Wire)--

Plugable Technologies' new Docking Station, funded with a successful Kickstarter campaign, points to the ability to turn inexpensive systems into full desktop replacements.

Plugable believes that in combination with $199 laptops and $99 Windows tablets highlighted at Microsoft's (News - Alert) Worldwide Partner Conference last week, there could be increased uptake of Windows tablets as desktop replacements.

Plugable's Kickstarter for its Pro8 Docking Station enables previously limited Windows tablets like the Dell (News - Alert) Venue 8 Pro to both charge and connect up to 128 USB devices, including multiple monitors over USB graphics, all with a single USB connection back to the ablet.

With over $24,000 collected from over 300 backers, Plugable's Kickstarter campaign reached full funding. Backers are getting the Pro8 docking station at a discount of its street price, which is expected to be $89 when the docking station becomes widely available this fall. The Kickstarter concludes this Sunday, July 27th 2014. More information is available at http://plugable.com/kickstarter.

"Microsoft is making a strong push for Windows tablets to compete with iOS and Android (News - Alert) not just on price, but also on features," said Bernie Thompson, Plugable's CEO. "Soon you'll be able to buy an inexpensive Windows 8.1 tablet with Office, run all your existing Windows applications, and connect to any number of extra large screens, USB devices, and charge through a single cable connection. This isn't possible with iOS or Android yet, to this could be a game-changer for the tablet market. We're excited to have helped enable this scenario for the Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet and others."
