American College of Lifestyle Medicine Hosts the 4th Annual Lifestyle Medicine Conference

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)--

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine ("ACLM") announced today that it will host its fourth annual conference October 19 through 22 at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Hotel in San Diego, California. This year's four day conference theme "Treat the Cause: Evidence Based Practice" will feature presentations by renowned lifestyle medicine experts who will present the state of the science and powerful rationale in support of the efficacy of lifestyle medicine.

The ACLM represents a body of physicians, health care professionals and organizations that believe that to change the current chronic disease epidemic and associated costs, health care organizations must "treat the cause." Almost 80% of chronic disease is directly related to lifestyle choices and can be prevented and often reversed through following lifestyle medicine principles. Fully implemented, lifestyle medicine can save up to 80% of the costs of chronic disease, thereby significantly decreasing the unsustainable rapid rise in health care costs.

The conference agenda includes a full spectrum of topics on the growing shift towards lifestyle medicine which incorporates nutrition, exercise and behavior changes and techniques. These are the principles behind Lifestyle Medicine and are essential to operating a successful patient-centered medical practice. The 2014 ACLM Conerence activities include:

  • A series of speaker presentations including ones from David Katz, MD, MPH, and Founding Director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center and Dean Ornish, MD and Founder of the Preventative Medicine Research Institute
  • Engaging breakout sessions including topics such as Wellness Coaching, Creating and Growing a Financially Sustainable Lifestyle Medicine Practice, and Using New Technology (News - Alert) to Promote Physical Activity Behavior Change
  • Networking with industry leaders
  • Access to the Exhibitor Pavilion
  • The annual membership meeting with State-of-the-Industry Report
  • A 5K Run

Keynote speakers for the conference represent the world's leading authorities in the field of Lifestyle Medicine. "The line-up of presenters who'll be assembled in San Diego is truly impressive," comments Conference Chairman Mark Faries, PhD. "The group of thought leaders we've attracted for this year's event is among the best and brightest in the field."
