Congo: 2 mobile phone companies to invest over 35b CFA francs in Congo [Pan African News Agency]

(Pan African News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) - Two mobile phone companies, MTN and Airtel, say they will invest 25 billion CFA francs and 10 billion CFA francs respectively in Congo to improve the quality of phone services for subscribers.

According to the director general of the regulatory authority for telecommunications and posts, Yves Castanou, the investment followed the operators' response to the financial penalties imposed on them for the poor quality of their networks.

He said that the two operators have submitted their programmes to Congo's Regulatory Agency for Post and Electronic Communications (ARPCE) for approval.

In order to ensure the proper execution of their programmes (as announced by MTN and Airtel), ARCPE technicians will inspect their facilities at the end of each month.

In May, ARPCE imposed a fine of more than 2 billion FCFA to the two companies for non-compliance with the legal and regulatory guidelines, including performance, quality and availability of networks.
