Visitors to county show will get insight into wool industry [Western Mail (Wales)]

(Western Mail (Wales) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) FARMERS and visitors to next month's Anglesey County Show will have the chance to gain a more detailed understanding of the work done on behalf of UK sheep farmers by the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB).

Gareth Jones, BWMB's producer communications manager said: "Our displays will include details of our marketing and promotional activities, shearing training and information on the latest wool prices.

"Many sheep farmers may see the BWMB as a wool collection service. But in fact it does far more than that. BWMB is the only wool trading organisation active at all levels of the wool supply chain from shearer training through to wool promotion, both at home and across the world." At the Anglesey Show, on Tuesday August 12 and Wednesday 13, the BWMB will be located within the fleece competition area where Meirion Jones, manager of the Porthmadog depot will be judging the competition.

At the Denbighshire & Flintshire Show on Thursday, August 14, the BWMB will sponsor the shearing competition held at the show.

Mr Jones said: "Training new shearers is one of the most important things we do for the industry.

"Highly-skilled shearers such as those trained by BWMB are essential to ensure wool is harvested from sheep in an efficient and welfare friendly manner.

"We are keen to promote shearing courses and competitions in Wales. By competing, young shearers gain valuable experience." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
