Intuit announces it will lay off 159 [The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, Va. :: ]

(Free Lance-Star (Fredericksburg, VA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 17--More than 150 Intuit employees in Stafford County learned Tuesday they will be laid off as part of a corporation-wide restructuring.

The announcement was made to employees at the company's Stafford branch, which is housed in two large buildings on Juliad Court off U.S. 17 in the Stafford Office Industrial Park near Berea.

The majority of the 159 affected employees were in the customer service division. They will continue to work until the end of July.

Intuit's local staff handles customer sales and service calls for a variety of the software maker's accounting-related products. Intuit's best-known offerings include Quicken, QuickBooks, Mint and TurboTax.

According to spokeswoman Elisabeth Gettelman, the restructuring will allow the software maker to focus on the QuickBooks Online ecosystem.

To do that, Intuit is outsourcing those Stafford jobs.

Gettelman said the company has retained a U.S.-based partner to manage that work since they have the ability to scale quickly and adapt to the needs of its growing base of cloud customers.

"We are committed to helping employees through this time of transition," Gettelman said. "Our goal is to make sure they are treated with dignity and respect, and to assist them as they enter the next step in their careers." The Free Lance-Star reported in March that Intuit was sustaining increased growth.

About 500 people work out of the Stafford location. That number had more than doubled over the past few years, making Intuit one of Stafford's largest employers.

The Stafford office is one of many locations operated by Intuit worldwide. The San Francisco area-based company is publicly traded and employs about 8,500 people.
