Bitglass Unveils Security Solution that Combines Flexibility of Public Cloud Apps with Security of Private Cloud Data

CAMPBELL, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Bitglass today launched a new cloud solution that enables enterprises to adopt the cloud apps that their business needs, while storing corporate data encrypted in their own private cloud. This new solution extends Bitglass' ability to secure corporate data anywhere it goes - in the cloud, on devices and at the point of access.

"Until now, enterprises with sensitive data have faced the seemingly impossible task of making that information available to employees anywhere, anytime, while ensuring that the data is secure and meets increasingly stringent compliance requirements. Bitglass' elegant solution to that problem will be met with applause," said Martin Hellman, a security expert best known as the co-inventor of public key cryptography.

The solution intermediates connections between users and cloud apps like Salesforce and Box (News - Alert). Application data is stored encrypted in the enterprise's private cloud rather than in plain text in the application itself and the data is dynamically decrypted and folded into the applicaion during use. This combines the security of data stored in a private cloud with the flexibility, performance and usability of popular public-cloud applications. The enterprise may also opt to store the data encrypted in the public-cloud application. The entire process is completely transparent to users.

Data is encrypted with industry-standard AES 256-bit encryption. Bitglass' patent-pending approach simultaneously maintains robust security (AES 256-bit encryption with 256-bit initialization vectors) and application functionality (including sorting, wildcard search and autocomplete).

The Bitglass solution deploys in minutes with one-click selection of data fields subject to encryption and allows organizations to quickly and easily change policies as regulatory and security policies change. No software installation or configuration of employee devices is required.

"Our customers are eager to adopt public-cloud applications, but struggle with maintaining data security," said Nat Kausik, CEO and co-founder of Bitglass. "Bitglass gives them the ability to adopt public-cloud applications while maintaining visibility, control and strong encryption of sensitive corporate data in a private cloud. This is a huge win for enterprises and for enterprise cloud app vendors."

To better understand the data security concerns facing enterprises as they adopt cloud apps, Bitglass is offering a free whitepaper on the topic. Access it at: http://www2.bitglass.com/encryption-whitepaper.
