Thamer Mansour Albalwi Found Innocent by Los Angeles Court, Announces Brown White & Newhouse LLP
LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)--
Brown White & Newhouse LLP announced that Thamer Mansour Albalwi was
cleared of all charges Friday July 11, 2014 during preliminary
proceedings at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, when Judge James
R. Dabney issued a finding of "factual innocence" with the
concurrence of the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office (Case
#SA086756). The Court found that Albalwi was falsely accused of sexually
assaulting a woman visiting him in Los Angeles. A thorough investigation
of the allegations proved that Mr. Albalwi was in fact the target of a
sophisticated, international extortion scheme.
Mr. Albalwi's accuser and her apparent associates were taken into
custody on Thrsday, July 10, 2014, based on evidence uncovered by
police that suggests they were engaged in a conspiracy to extort funds
from his family.
On behalf of Mr. Albalwi's defense team that included Pamela Mackey, of
the firm Haddon, Morgan and Foreman, Attorney Alan Jackson stated,
"Those who know Thamer never doubted his innocence. Our three-month
investigation uncovered details of a complex, international scheme to
blackmail the Albalwi family by seeking to extort money in return for
the accuser's promise not to testify. The evidence was so overwhelming
that the District Attorney's Office agreed with the Court's finding of
factual innocence in this case, and the police have arrested Thamer's
accuser and two of her apparent associates."
Mr. Albalwi fully cooperated with police investigators and prosecutors.
He provided telephone and credit card records, emails, text messages and
surveillance video to the police which showed that his accuser's
allegations were false. The records provided also demonstrated the
accuser's involvement in an attempt to extract millions of dollars from
the Albalwi family in return for refusing to testify.
Thamer Mansour Albalwi stated, "I prayed that the truth would come out
and, thanks to the American justice system, it did."
