(Bangor Daily News (ME) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 13--Pulse Marketing Agency in Bangor has spent the last few months celebrating its fifth year in business by finding ways to support the community. This month, they are sponsoring a week of Bangor Parks and Recreation day camp for five local, low-income children selected randomly from names submitted by the public through a Facebook application.

Cintia Miranda, president of Pulse, said the themes for each month have to do with benefiting one or more sectors of the community. The first month, Pulse donated five trees to the city in an effort to bring more pollinating insects to the area; the second month, they held a community-wide workout day. This month, they want to help kids who may not otherwise have a chance to attend the recreation department's popular, often-sold-out day camps.

Miranda said so far, staff and the community have given her positive feedback about the campaign, which Pulse has coined, "5 Months, 5 Deeds, 5 Years." "We're having fun with it and we feel good doing it too," she said.

Other events planned as part of the campaign will include something benefiting the senior citizens of Bangor, and the animal shelter. However, Miranda said the final details aren't quite ironed out.

The names of the children nominated and ultimately selected for the scholarships through a random drawing generated by Facebook, will not be made public. They will attend camp during one of the first weeks in August and will participate in crafts, games and field trips. Normally the camp costs between $95 and $110 per student and is for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade.

The public is encouraged to nominate children and will be asked to explain why the child should receive the scholarship. To submit a nomination, visit the Facebook page at: https://apps.facebook.com/my-contests/xgqbrw.
