Medical examiner investigators want schooling [Odessa American, Texas :: ](Odessa American (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 13--In their regular meeting scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday, Ector County commissioners are expected to vote on sending some new members of the medical examiner's office out of town to school. Chuck Moad, the new chief investigator with the Ector County Medical Examiner's Office, and Kim Herrington, one of the newer investigators, are both requesting to go to death investigator school. Moad's schooling would be from July 27 through Aug. 2 in Las Vegas, and Herrington's would be from Aug. 17 through Aug. 22 in St. Louis. The courses will cost $425 each, according to an attachment on the agenda item. Moad replaced long-time chief investigator Shirley Standefer amid criticism of the job she and the rest of the office have done in the past year, leading District Attorney Bobby Bland to be upset about one missed opportunity to seek a murder charge and an exhumation of two bodies in another case. Medical Examiner Dr. Anne Acreman is still seeking a replacement for the medical examiner position.
