NFIB Urges Supreme Court to Protect Process for Ensuring Small Business Has Access to Mobile Services

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, July 11 -- The National Federation of Independent Business issued the following news release: Karen Harned, Executive Director of NFIB's Small Business Legal Center, made the following statement in response to NFIB's amicus brief filing in T-Mobile v. City of Roswell. In this case the Supreme Court will have to decide whether local municipalities must provide detailed explanations to wireless carriers when they deny applications to build new cell towers.

"In the past, local zoning authorities often moved slowly or sought to prevent telecommunications companies from providing vital infrastructure to their communities. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was designed to fix that problem by requiring denials to be subject to effective judicial oversight. However, this case threatens this important process. Small businesses depend on the continued improvement and deployment of wireless towers and mobile phone service. We urge the Supreme Court to see how critical this case is to both the telecommunications industry and national economic growth."
