NBTC and EGAT collaborate on telecommunication network and power grid in ASEAN [Global Data Point]


(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) On June 24, 2014, EGAT's Governor, Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate and Secretary-General of NBTC, Mr. Thakorn Thantasith signed MOU with the aim to share knowledge and experience between the 2 organizations and support the coordination of social activities. All the collaboration between EGAT and NBTC is the way to get Thailand prepared for entering ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).



The Secretary-General of NBTC revealed that NBTC had established the NBTC Academy and the Data Center to support human resource development of both organizations. Besides, NBTC would also set up suitable rules to regulate telecommunication business that would collaborate with the development of Thailand Smart Grid into Smart ASEAN Power Grid, which would further contribute the benefits to electricity industry and others. The office would also cooperate with the other ASEAN countries' telecommunication regulators to share experience and knowledge and to promote the management of the interconnecting optic fiber (OPGW) network which was now under construction together with the existing and future HV power transmission line under ASEAN Power Grid Project. This collaborating network would strengthen the ASEAN telecommunication network and competitiveness.

EGAT Governor said that the idea of cooperation between these two organizations had started since EGAT had obtained telecoms license from former NTC in 2007. To develop Thailand Smart Grid into Smart ASEAN Power Grid required ICT system to establish the communication network among supply side, operation side, and demand side, leading to Smart ASEAN Telecommunication Grid. Moreover, the collaboration includes the CSR activities that provide the maximum benefits to communities.
