United Way invests $300,000 in local programs [The Bemidji Pioneer, Minn. :: ]


(Bemidji Pioneer (MN) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 03--BEMIDJI -- The United Way of Bemidji Area Board of Directors recently approved $300,000 to go to 30 local nonprofit agencies and programs.

"This investment into the Bemidji area creates opportunities for our neighbors to have a better life by focusing on education, income and health -- the building blocks for a good quality of life," officials said in a press release Wednesday.



Funding came directly from donations received through the annual United Way Community Campaign, officials said.

Non-profit agencies that will receive investments from the United Way in 2014-2015 include: Adult Day Services, ARC United, Beltrami County Historical Society, Bemidji Community Food Shelf, Bemidji Community Soup Kitchen, Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area, Churches United, Civil Air Patrol-Northland Squadron, Community Resource Connections, Evergreen Youth and Family Services-Kinship North program, Evergreen Youth and Family Services-Shelter Program, Evergreen Youth and Family Services-Transitional Housing, Girl Scouts of MN and WI Lakes and Pines, Headwaters Science Center, Hope House, Lutheran Social Services-Foster Grandparents/Senior Companions, Lutheran Social Services-Senior Nutrition Program, North Country Food Bank, Northern Dental Access Center, Northwoods Caregivers, Northwoods Coalition for Family Safety, Paul Bunyan Amateur Radio Club, Paul Bunyan Senior Activity Center, Peacemaker Resources, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)/America Reads, Support within Reach (formerly known as the Sexual Assault Program), Timber Bay, Upper Mississippi Mental Health Center, Village of Hope, and Voyageurs Area Council Boy Scouts of America.


United Way also provides and partners within the community for programs such as Backpack Buddies food packs, Coats for the Community, Holiday Gifts for Kids, NALC "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, Senior Community Clean-Up Day, Someone Special Volunteer Recognition and Week of Caring.
