IGEL improves its thin and zero client management software with new user functionality and improved security compliance features(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 03 July 2014 Release date- 20062014 - Cincinnati, Ohio - IGEL's latest version of its Universal Management Suite (UMS) zero and thin client management software contains new user functionality and improved security compliance features. IGEL UMS, which comes standard with all IGEL devices and allows the remote management of all hardware and software-based thin and zero clients within a company or multi-location environment, now has improved search mode, new recycle bin and VNC shadowing improved with logging function and a detailed rights distribution system. In order to meet companies' compliance requirements, the VNC shadowing (mirroring) function has been thoroughly overhauled and now offers even greater security. When the 'Secure Mode' is enabled, all VNC sessions are logged with the IP addresses, date and time recorded in a log file. If the logging of user names is also required, this can be enabled separately. In Secure Mode, the UMS server initiates the provision of mirroring via an SSL tunnel, which in turn prevents client-to-client connections and unauthorized access. The VNC Secure Mode can be enabled manually and can also be used for mixed operation or for special user groups with higher security levels. During the process, rights are distributed on a detailed basis by the UMS itself. Other directory services such as Microsoft Active Directory are supported as well. The IGEL UMS now also features a recycle bin. The associated function can be found in the UMS structure tree and offers users options similar to those on Windows systems. Using the UMS, all objects (thin clients, profiles, firmware updates, views and files) can be moved to the recycle bin1 , from where they can either be permanently deleted or restored again if necessary. This means that a thin client in the recycle bin, for example, will still be linked to the UMS via its certificate but will not be provided with any new settings or updates. Any jobs, views or search queries in the recycle bin are inactive too. As always with IGEL, the feature can be selectively enabled or disabled in order to ensure maximum user flexibility. The IGEL UMS now offers two search methods. The familiar search (Ctrl+F) is UMS user-specific in the latest release This means that search profiles (that have already been used) can be utilized as a template or modified as necessary and then used again. The search history can be found within the UMS structure tree, and the number of search entries displayed there can be changed on a user-specific basis. The UMS also offers the Quick Search (Ctrl-Shift+F) function. The search field is located at the top right of the UMS main window and is also personalized. With just a few clicks, thin clients can be localized within the system. The search results are flagged within the directory tree and it is possible to navigate between the hits using the arrow keys. The last 20 search queries are stored in the Quick Search field and, unlike the normal search function, the search is restricted to the nodes of the structure tree, the last known IP address or the MAC address. In the latest version, the user is also provided with a link to the Release Notes when using Universal Firmware Updates. The document for the firmware can be opened straight from the download dialog.
