Curly's Foods Receives National Paper Recycling Award

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, June 26 -- The American Forest and Paper Association issued the following news release: The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) presented Curly's Foods, based in Sioux City, Iowa, with its 2014 Business Leadership Award for Volume. The award, which recognizes outstanding paper recycling programs, was presented during a staff luncheon at Curly's Foods headquarters.

The program recovered the highest amount of paper for recycling of all applications in the Business category.

"AF&PA is proud to honor Curly's Foods' recycling efforts with this year's Business Recycling Award for Volume. By emphasizing the importance of recycling and involving employees, they were able to maximize collection in an efficient manner," said Machele Henderson, plant general manager for International Paper Recycling - Des Moines, who presented the award on behalf of AF&PA.

Curly's Foods initiated a recycling program to recover old corrugated containers (OCC) decades ago, when they were a small meat processing company, because they recognized sustainability as a key component to a successful business. New employees are educated on the importance of recycling, and all employees are involved in the company's environmental management system.

"Curly's Foods is honored to receive this year's AF&PA Business Recycling Award for Volume. Our employees have made great strides to improve paper recycling in our business, and I hope this award encourages them to reach even higher returns," said Bob Brady, general manager for Curly's Foods.

AF&PA recently announced that 63.5 percent of all paper consumed in the U.S. was recovered for recycling in 2013. Recycling programs such as Curly's Foods', combined with the recycling efforts of millions of Americans each day, help drive the industry toward its goal to exceed 70 percent paper recovery for recycling by 2020.
