Sunderland Software Centre, in Tavistock Place, will play host to an open event arranged by IBM that will see the company bring its innovative SlamTracker technology to the city to show businesses and the public how it works. The event, which takes place on Thursday, will highlight the complex software systems that allow in-depth match analysis, helping viewers get an up-to-date sense of how a match is unfolding. IBM has been the All England Lawn Tennis Club's (AELTC) official technology supplier since 1990, and its SlamTracker technology has proven a hit with fans and broadcasters, allowing them to get to grips with match statistics easily. SlamTracker has been redesigned and simplified for 2014, featuring a new interface that encourages engagement and delivers insights to Wimbledon fans. IBM will be showcasing its new mobile technology, with the Official Wimbledon app for the iPad, iPhone and Android app platforms, offering a personalized Wimbledon experience that makes it easier to access everything from live scores to video highlights and more. Sam Seddon, Wimbledon client and program executive for IBM, said: "The technology really is fascinating to tennis fans and software enthusiasts alike, and I am sure it will prove to be a popular event for both. "The software used in SlamTracker collects and processes complex data at high speed, converting that into facts and stats portrayed as attractive imagery and infographics - it's something that really has transformed people's viewing experience. "And it's great to be able to showcase this from a building that is home to the city's burgeoning software community." Coun Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: "Sunderland is well established as a place for software and technology, and hosting events like this is a real privilege for both businesses in this sector and of course the public too, who get to see some of the most cutting-edge software around."
