Massive mobile phone heist at Kinston Pointe [The Free Press, Kinston, N.C. :: ](Kinston Free Press (NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 20--Mobile phone thefts aren't uncommon -- every day there's tales of people who had their phone swiped off a table at a restaurant or even right out of their hand. It's a little rare when the thief goes right to the source. The Kinston Pointe location of Carolina Communications -- a U.S. Cellular authorized retailer -- started Thursday morning about 113 units and more than $56,000 down in inventory after an overnight burglary. "Officers were told that sometime between the hours of 9:11 p.m. on (Wednesday) and about 9 a.m. (Thursday) someone entered the business and stole 113 cell phones," said Woody Spencer, spokesman for the Kinston Department of Public Safety. "There were no signs of forced entry to the building." For those in the market for a higher-end Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy device of questionable provenance, chances are the thief or thieves made off with at least one of those units in several different colors. There were 22 iPhone 5C 16G units taken in five different colors to go along with 17 gold, gray and silver varieties of the iPhone 5S 16G model. Among the Samsung phones there wasn't the same rainbow variety, though both black and white models of several phones were part of the estimated haul. Staff at the store said they couldn't speak on the matter as it is currently in the hands of law enforcement. Spencer said investigators are following all leads to identify a suspect. "When something happens like this, everyone's a suspect," Spencer said. "At this point in time, we have no information to point a finger at anyone." The investigation is ongoing.
