Canada : Canada s Algonquin College and Carleton University integrate Alcatel-Lucent Service Router training to equip engineers of the future [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Alcatel-Lucent has joined forces with Algonquin College and Carleton University, based in Ottawa, Canada, to train network engineers of the future in the latest IP networking technologies.

The two higher education authorities have incorporated courses from the Alcatel-Lucent Service Routing Certification (SRC) program into their Bachelor of Information Technology (BiT) degree. The first set of students have just completed their training.

Students are given access to an Alcatel-Lucent Service Router lab for coursework, homework and for final exams. Course instructors are also certified by the Alcatel-Lucent SRC program. The training gives students the skills and knowledge needed to build and support today s IP/MPLS networks using Alcatel-Lucent equipped labs and service routers.

Barry Denroche, VP IP Routing Services, of Alcatel-Lucent said: The Alcatel-Lucent SRC Program is a unique program specifically designed to equip networking engineers, operations and strategic planning staff with the skills to overcome operational challenges and align networks to companies changing business goals. By incorporating the program within higher education courses such as the BiT degree at Algonquin College and Carleton University we can give students the edge when they enter the job market with a superior understanding of IP/MPLS technologies and how to deploy IP services over an Alcatel-Lucent Service Router product platform.

Andrew Pridham Academic Chair, Information and Communications Technology Department, Algonquin College: The first semester has been a great success. As higher education facilities our primary concern is to educate tomorrows workforce and we are pleased that our vision is shared by companies like Alcatel-Lucent. By giving students access to commercially available IP equipment, it provides a real understanding of networks that will serve them well when they finish their education.

Algonquin College and Carleton University have joined several other schools who have integrated the Alcatel-Lucent SRC Program into their curriculum. In 2010, Instituto Universitário da Maia (ISMAI) in Portugal incorporated the program into several of its Bachelor of Science Programs. The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia incorporated the NRS I and NRS II Certification Programs into the Network Engineering and Advanced Network Engineering courses within its Bachelor of Engineering and Masters of Engineering programs. Hundreds of students worldwide are now working towards various SRC certifications as a result of their participation in this program and building their IP/MPLS skills to support Alcatel-Lucent customers worldwide.
